What it is
WIC provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, and for infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.
Benefits load onto a WIC Nutrition Card each month. Thanks in part to advocacy by Gesher and Agudath Israel of Ohio, Ohio WIC now includes expanded kosher options — ask us what’s covered.
Staying enrolled
- Recertify on the schedule your clinic sets — certification periods run 6 months to a year depending on your category (infants and children can be certified for up to a year).
- After a baby is born, the local WIC office needs to see the infant, a crib card or birth letter, proof of income and address, and your WIC Nutrition Card.
How Gesher helps
Navigating WIC requirements can be confusing. Gesher can provide guidance on eligibility, explain what documentation is needed, and help you prepare for your WIC appointment. We can also assist with scheduling your appointment with the local WIC clinic.
