What it is
The Home Weatherization Assistance Program makes free energy-efficiency improvements to your home — insulation, air sealing, and furnace repair or replacement — permanently cutting your utility bills rather than helping with a single payment. Households that received SSI, TANF (Ohio Works First), or regular HEAP in the last 12 months are automatically income-eligible. As of April 2026 the program is administered by the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.
The emergency track
If your furnace or boiler fails, the same application can be expedited: it’s submitted marked “emergency” and moves ahead of the regular queue. Combine with Emergency HEAP if you also have a shut-off notice.
