What it is
Lifeline is a federal program that provides a monthly discount on phone or internet service — up to $9.25 for broadband or bundled service ($5.25 for voice-only). Many participating wireless providers apply the discount as a no-cost phone plan with monthly minutes and data, and discounted home internet is available through participating providers.
Choosing a provider
Ohio residents have a number of Lifeline providers to choose from. It pays to call several and compare:
- What type of phone do they offer?
- Are there texting charges?
- Do unused minutes roll over?
The plans differ slightly, and you’re allowed to pick the one that fits your life best.
